During a mini-book tour in Chicago I was lucky enough to visit Chess studios, 2120 Sth Michigan Ave.
We sat in the room and our guide Janine Judge played tracks recorded in that very space, Etta James, Fontella Bass, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, BB King, Chuck B... I almost cried.
One thing Janine said that stood out for me... because of segregation most of the musicians who recorded at Chess never received the widespread recognition and airplay they deserved... that is until British musicians (including Brian Jones, Keith Richard and the Yardbirds) started to tell their fans in the US and the rest of the world how much the music had inspired them.
Keep the faith.
