Project of the Week: Perched high atop a coastal mountain range in #Topanga, #California, the Saddle Peak house designed by architecture firm @Sant_Architects features sharp lines and horizontal geometry.
The 2,400-square-foot house is constructed primarily of steel beams, monolithic concrete slabs, wood and glass. Structurally, it has 14 boarded concrete load-bearing walls that define the house in two blocks or volumes. Wide profile steel beams are anchored to the interior face of each concrete wall, forming horizontal floating slabs that support steel joists and air conditioning distribution.
The house blends into the gently sloping natural surroundings with a rock-side patio and infinity pool with dark blue mosaic tile. Large windows frame panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the mountains and nearby Catalina Island.
The master suite is located on the lower level, while the upper level houses the kitchen, dining room and three bedrooms. This part of the house has sliding doors to create private or social areas.
The house is Mid-Century Modern in style combined with a minimal material and color palette. In the interiors, the floors and walls are wood, while the color details come from textiles and furniture from renowned designers such as Hans Wegner, Jasper Morrison and Stefan Diez. The style of the house is completed in the exteriors with the iconic Acapulco and Kentucky chairs. 📸: @rossi.jrdn, @joefletcherphoto, @howdy_ktom #architectanddesign
