MICROBIAL LORES Please join me and principal investigator @yeahsnos of @serpentineuk ‘s Synthetic Ecologies lab discuss our project of the last few months. Appointed as curator, we’ve become a Fermentation Guild discussing the ancient histories, dieties, untold stories of the microbial memory. Considering to non-linear temporalities, and paying reverence to stewards of knowledge like our microbial and biological mothers, interspecies studies of leaf cutter ants we arrive at today’s technological advances in science. We’ve got fake bloody meats, lab grown leathers, the queer community’s fave Oatmilk as examples to study next to Eastern, ancient, and indigenous histories. Where does nationalism play into our perceptions of fermentation culturally? Who makes the rules, regulations, and pop culture marketing and creation of fermentation and wellness? How does this relate to todays COVID-era bacteriaphobis and concurrent xenophobia? How have our grandmother’s hands played an integral role in passing down stories through bacteria memory? Juicy bits discussed today at ***3pm EST*** during our digital presentation on Twitch. Sign up in my bio! Learn about the upcoming presentations with all our Fermentation Guild members (aka the Fermentation edition of Marvel Avengers) and an overview of some of our conversations in creating Microbial Lores. @nadiaaymone flavor historian @seetalsolanki materials translator, founder of @ma.tt.er @namita_p82 fermentation manager at The Crick Institute @lucychinen artist and co-founder of @eat.non.food @jovidean senior researcher at The Danish Tech University and Sustainable Food Innovation Group @broskoski founder @aredotna @howaboutchiara lead researcher @clairelevans musician and writer @aleksandrboyce producer magician Design by @mindyseu Typeface by @_brianhuddleston Artwork by @m0henjodaro
