There’s a very specific brand of fandom inherent to most teenage girls and femmes: at its mildest it looks like an all-consuming crush, at its most potent it is sickening, life-dictating, god-defying, earth-shattering obsession. I was cursed with the latter, and Twilight was my monomania.
I read ‘Twilight’ almost every night from ages 13-15. My books were war-torn and dog-eared. On my 14th birthday, I invited a group of girls to the midnight release of ‘Breaking Dawn’ at a Borders, where we all bought books and stayed up in my living room spooning chocolate cake and reading til our eyelids were heavy (the most dedicated know who they are), screaming at the pregnancy and baby name reveal.
If you had told my 14-year-old self that I’d be part of a photo shoot at the Swan House in Oregon, writing the accompanying profile on Mackenzie Foy (who played Renesmee), I would have lost my mind.
All this is to say: How lucky am I to be able to honor and uplift something I once loved with my full chest, unabashedly? And to do it with a team of Twihards about whom I care deeply, no less? Spending a few nights in this house eating late-night pizza and laughing until our faces hurt? Joy.
Read the profile, if you’d like, and enjoy the magical photos by @kristinelliss. Thank you, thank you, thank you to @emilyzirimis for pushing this forward — it was a dream come true.
