#ForeverisNowII MEET THE ARTISTS ft eL Seed (@elseed ): When French-Tunisian calligraphy artist eL Seed creates an installation, he does not merely tell the story through the artwork itself; the medium itself is the narrator. Whether it's a neighborhood-spanning mural across several buildings in Cairo's Manshiyat Nasr titled 'Perception' that can only be fully seen from a particular vantage point on a nearby mountain, or the 'Mirrors of Babel' manifesting as swirling columns of Arabic calligraphy in the cosmopolitan city of Toronto, everything about these installations - from the location chosen to the materials used - contribute to the narrative eL Seed strives to convey. Known for his use of Arabic calligraphy and poetry, the contemporary artist's work has flourished across the facades of buildings such as the L'Institut du Monde Arabe while his epic-sized murals have taken over entire swathes of gritty urban-scapes everywhere from Cairo to Cape Town and from Rio de Janeiro to the DMZ between North and South Korea. In 2015, he collaborated with Louis Vuitton on their 'Foulard d'artistes', and was recognized by TED as a TED Fellow for advocating peaceful expression and social progress. In 2017 he won the UNESCO Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture, and won the International Award for Public Art in 2019 for his project 'Perception'.
