It’s always slightly painful to squish a large painting into a tiny thumbnail Instagram box so I like to show a process photo for scale. Art is usually best viewed in person, where you can see the brush strokes and feel the energy of the painting. Scale can be a big part of how a painting is experienced. Still, I think there’s opportunity here to show other aspects that can add to the context of the painting. I painted this in between trips, picking away at different sections as they pulled me in. Mostly, as viewed here, sat or kneeled on the ground, hunched over almost feeling as if i’m sitting in the landscape itself. Although, it feels like my time in the desert has been lacking recently, I can still “go there” when I paint these canyons and towers.
