It’s #NationalLipstickDay and what better way to give a backstory to our origin. In 2016, I had reached my limit of feeling excluded from the beauty industry. Here I go...grabbing a red lipstick from a retailer thinking it’s going to look RED on me, but because of my dark pink lip tone, the color showed up as an orange-red. I later saw this tweet from @rozthecreator come across my Twitter feed. I screenshot it and said to myself, “I’m going to do something about this.” After a lot of laughs and cries, we launched Pound Cake—a pro-Black, pro-fat, and pro-queer cosmetics company making products for people of different skin AND lip tones. Color cosmetics should be created to account for Black/brown folks (in all facets). Here at Pound Cake, we do just that. ✌🏾, Camille co-founder
