Having photos like this of myself feels empowering taking into account that I’ve only been able to take ownership over exploring my femininity as well as my sensuality well into my 20s. As I explore this femininity, I remind myself it doesn’t make me any less non-binary. How I dress myself up or down has nothing to do with my actual innate gender identity, and I think people often get that confused, even in gay spaces where a level of heteronormativity still plays out. I love my fluidity. I love wearing sweats every day & looking like a boy or feeling the comfort in hiding my body in a giant hoodie but then stunting like this on a set. It’s all a part of the process. I experienced a lot of shame as a child when wanting to play dress up or try makeup due to women in my family having to take on a masculine role, and though I see the grace in what they had to go through, I allow myself the expansiveness of savoring the sweetness of expression in this way.
