After Roe fell, some companies began to offer to support the out-of-state travel expenses for employees who need abortion care. So high school junior Talia Kantor Lieber began to wonder: What about colleges?
Over six weeks, she contacted 61 schools in states where abortion is banned or at risk of being so. And “the vast majority of the schools I called—home to, by rough calculations, at least 480,000 students who could become pregnant— were not ready to help those students access care they might need,” she says.
In an exclusive report for today’s newsletter, Talia reports the confusion and uncertainty she found, even as students show up on campuses across the country. And the five schools that noted resources that could support student travel? They include the College of Wooster and, and Vanderbilt University—which referenced emergency funds that students could potentially access for abortion-related travel expenses.
