Y’all!! The Kindergarten drama has been plentiful during these first few weeks for my baby Layla! She’s interacting with other kids more than she ever has in new environment & discovering all sorts of new things including how to use her voice! These are the moments I’ve been preparing my girls for. The moments where they may get kicked, bullied, denied, or when things may just not seem/feel so “fair”. I thank God that I’m present & mindful enough to walk this journey with her & have moments where we take time to dissect various conflicting circumstances that arise while she’s at school. Today we’re discussing a “friend - Quinn” who used to choose Layla to be her partner daily until a new girl came to class & now the “friend - Quinn” chooses the new girl to partner with consistently instead of Layla. Layla still plays with her “friend-Quinn” outside during recess but they don’t partner anymore in class. I totally understand how Layla feels in this situation ( and it cracks my mommy-heart a bit ) BUT we’re buckling up & seeking a resolution. It’s also very easy to pull the race card in this situation since Layla is a minority within her class so I’m stepping over that issue & placing it in my back pocket for the time being as we explore other options. We role-played on how she’ll be on the prowl for her new partner during lunch time ( did you peep the not-so-subtle head movements that represent how hard she’ll be searching that cafeteria table for her new partner? 😂 ). We also reviewed things she can do to go ahead & find herself a new partner including #1 ask someone else or #2 ask the teacher to find you a partner. I also had to remind Layla of when she started Pre-K & had a “new best friend” & she was the friend dumping a friend for a new friend - whew! Hope y’all are following along. Ugh, THE DRAMA! LOL! It sucks to feel rejected but we’ve got to always trust that everything happens for us, not to us. The Second Agreement in the book The Four Agreements taught me to not take things personally & every once in a while I’ll remember that! What are y’all’s thoughts?
