#WhaleWednesday Happy (Baby) Whale Wednesday! Survey teams recently spotted the first calves of the N. Atlantic right whale calving season off the Georgia coast. Right whale “Medusa” and her new calf were sighted on December 7 (see video footage) and “Archipelago” and her new calf were sighted on December 8. The southeastern United States is the only known area where these endangered whales regularly give birth and nurse their young. Learn more about these babies and their moms: https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/national/endangered-species-conservation/north-atlantic-right-whale-calving-season-2023 Boaters, it can be difficult to spot these whales while navigating, so please slow down to 10 knots or less in areas where right whales are likely present. #GoSlowWhalesBelow Credit: Georgia Department of Natural Resources, taken under NOAA permit #20556-01.
