This is a person with self doubt 👋
I’m not smart enough. I don’t have the right background. I’ve never done this before. I don’t belong here. Pick your poison, because that’s exactly what it is. If I’m arguing for what I can’t do, who will argue for what I can?
Maybe the only notable thing about self doubt aka imposter syndrome is how common it is, *especially* among women (see: @serenawilliams, @ariannahuff, Justice Sonia Sotomayor and @traceeellisross, who are all open about it). And why not be open about it so we can be a little more human with each other. We’re all figuring it out as we go.
Your strengths will be different from everyone else’s; embrace them. You’ll have failures along the way; learn from them. You won’t do things as well as you know you could have; be gentle on yourself. People will disappoint you; be gentle on them too. Recognize the privileges you’ve had; if you’re like me they’ve been great. You can’t see the next 200 miles ahead of you; focus on the next 20 feet. Your path will be your own; savor it.

Thank you @beauty4brownskin for the beautifully candid conversation that spurred this.
