As we celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance, unfortunately, another intentional act of mass gun violence has occurred. While the facts are unclear, what we do know is that members of LGBQ, trans, and non-binary communities were the targets.
• What we do know is that five people were killed, 18 people were injured, and
several victims are in critical condition and being treated at hospital intensive care units.
• What we do know is that people in LGBQ, trans, and non-binary communities are nearly four times more likely than others to experience violent victimization.
• What we do know is that people in LGBQ, trans, and non-binary communities are more than twice as likely to be victims of gun violence.
• What we do know is that nearly 20% of all hate crimes are perpetrated against people in LGBQ, trans, and non-binary communities.
So now the question is, what will WE do about it?
It’s time that we become outraged and find the courage to fully embrace the humanity of people in LGBQ, trans, and non-binary communities. It’s time we take a stand to uphold the rights and ensure justice for people in LGBQ, trans, and non-binary communities.
A Call to Men stands with members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, and non-binary communities and everyone impacted by this tragedy.
