Perched dramatically above the Gulf of Naples, the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is more than just a luxury retreat—it’s a living piece of Sorrento’s history. Founded in 1834 by the Fiorentino family, the hotel has welcomed royalty, artists, and icons for nearly two centuries. From Emperor Franz Joseph to Sophia Loren, its guestbook reads like a story of Europe’s cultural and social elite. Behind its ornate gates lies a world of timeless elegance: frescoed halls, marble staircases, and manicured gardens that whisper stories of a bygone era. Stepping onto the sweeping terrace feels like entering a postcard—Mount Vesuvius rising across the bay, just as countless travelers have admired for generations. Last week, my travel companion and I had the chance to experience this historic gem firsthand, as part of my ongoing research into historic seaside resort towns—and it was unforgettable. During our visit, we were honored to meet Guido Fiorentino, whose family has owned and/or operated the hotel since 1834. The Excelsior Vittoria isn’t only a hotel; it’s a symbol of Sorrento’s heritage, where history and hospitality merge seamlessly. ✨🏛️🌊 @excelsiorvittoria @leadinghotelsoftheworld @esmailzadeh.mitra #Sorrento #ExcelsiorVittoria #historichotels #historicseasideresorts #leadinghotelsoftheworld #italy #bayofnaples
