On August 25, 2009, as I held my three week old baby, two soldiers told me that my husband, CPT John Hallett, had been killed on his way home from a goodwill mission. Each year on the anniversary of his death, I embrace the world - touch the earth, see the stars, climb the mountains - in all the ways his death denied. This year, I ran the Leadville 100 to honor his sacrifice and celebrate his life. The cheers and support of other runners on the course ensured that I reached my goal in remembrance of my favorite guy who didn’t get to reach all of his. And, after reminding me that “Halletts Do Hard Things,” at 28 hours, 59 minutes, and 50 seconds, that now 13-year old baby girl and I crossed the finish line of the 2022 Leadville 100.
