“There’s no shame in lying in the bed you made.” I am holding myself accountable for the stupid joke I made yesterday. It was unintentionally r@cist and I hurt people; specifically the AAPI community. I am so, so sorry for my ignorance and lack of thought. I have caused harm to a community that has already suffered far too much in recent years and for that I’m ashamed & feel just awful. I love you all so much and I am so grateful for each and every one of you. I made a mistake and I promise you it won’t happen again. When someone tells you that you hurt them, you don’t get to decide that you didn’t. Some beautiful people spoke out and rightfully called me out and for that I am so grateful and humbled. Your conviction is something to be admired, and I have nothing but love and respect for you. As a white woman, I have inherent privilege that allows me to be more careless, thoughtless and mindless with less repercussions, and that’s simply not okay. Thank you so much for graciously holding me accountable and for being wonderful people. I will do better. You absolutely have no obligation to accept my apology, but I have an obligation to recognize my privilege & ignorance and take full responsibility for it. I fucked up. Plain and simple.
