Harvest has come and gone, and we've been getting asked - what happens now? As the vines prepare for dormancy, they store up and allocate nutrients. With the process of photosynthesis, carbohydrate reserves are stored in the main wood of the vine (roots and trunks). This makes the post-harvest period crucial for nutrient uptake. The vine uses these carbohydrate reserves for ‘respiration’ during the dormant period to come and will fuel new growth in the following season. So, while it may look like the vine is barren as it lies dormant over winter, it’s already preparing for the next season 🌈 #wintervines #postharvest #grapes #vineyards #santabarbarawinecountry #visitsantabarbara #winemaker
