Jesus Benavente (@testotesto3 ), Chinati artist in residence, presented his performance installation “I’m Not Dancing, I’m Struggling to Survive: The Locker Plant” at his open studio during Chinati Weekend. Benavente draws from his Latinx identity to create work that challenges societal constraints and conventions surrounding the Western art canon as well as the politics of protest. His “sad party” at Chinati encapsulated the emotional complexities of celebration in a subversive and humorous way.
