London-born restaurant proprietor Keith McNally declared that he was banning James Corden from Balthazar in SoHo, New York. In a message on his Instagram page, he said:
“James Corden is a hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny cretin of a man,” he declared.
McNally said he was “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago. . . I don’t often 86 a customer, [but] today I 86’d Corden,” he said, using a slang term to signify someone or something being ejected.
By way of evidence, of the condemned diner’s offences, he offered two reports from restaurant managers. One said Corden had been dining in there that day and had discovered a hair in his food, which, “although diabolical . . . happens very occasionally in all restaurants”, McNally wrote. “Corden was extremely nasty to [the manager], and said: ‘Get us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all of our drinks so far’ ”, while adding an apparent threat about writing “nasty reviews” online.
Corden’s ban appeared to have been overturned a few hours later, after he apparently called McNally to apologise. In an update to his earlier post, the restaurateur wrote: “James Corden just called me and apologised profusely. “Having f***ed up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances.
