I was born in Berhampur, Odisha with parents that worked middle class jobs and had no artistic background. I went to Harobino Vidya Bhavan, played cricket on my grandfather’s rooftop, and sang songs from Ghulam over the phone to my aunt. When I was six, we moved to Chicago and I didn’t know how much of that little girl would remain with me. I always hoped she could come back one day and make Odisha proud. Tomorrow I am singing at the Hockey World Cup in my home state, my Odisha, my heart. In three days I am playing my first show in my hometown of Berhampur, in front of all my loved ones. To say this is surreal is an understatement ❤️ I hope I’m making that toothless big-headed toddler proud 🥹
