Single parenting at home was getting a little too easy for me, so I decided to test my skills by bringing them on 4 flights, 4 boats, to 3 states, 5 islands and out to eat in restaurants 25 times. I also decided to invite my extended family including one person who hates to travel and has questionable feelings about children altogether. Some things I learned: 1. Noise is better than silence. Silence means someone’s lost, dead or doing something they shouldn’t be. 2. Dont offer a lecture to someone who needs a hug. 3. Grown ups and kids alike act like assholes when theyre hungry, thirsty, tired or feel left out. If basic needs arent met, dont try to teach a lesson- they can’t hear you. 4. Not everyone enjoys being around kids, and thats not my problem. It’s not my responsibility to make everyone happy and comfortable. 5. Rarely will everyone be happy at the same time.
