To our devoted fans out there, with deep regards of this very sad news: Clifford Pusey II, aka “Looney Moonie,” has passed away. He lost his long battle to cancer. Of all the guitar players we’ve had, Moonie was the most visually dynamic. He gave us that rocky edge that captivated our white audience who were often in a trance listening to the wailing sound squeezed from the tension he placed on the whammy bar. He made us a cut above the rest in regards to our sound. Moonie was our lead guitarist from 1992 til the early 2000s. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Moonie just before he passed. Together, we watched our live shows of yesteryear. My parting words with him was assuring him how much he was loved and never forgotten by the band. His parting words were, “Steel Pulse was the best thing that ever happened to me.” That whispered sentiment shook me to the core. We pray that Moonie is reunited with his wife and best friend, Fabienne Miranda, who made the transition some seven years ago. Farewell to the God Parents to one of my children.
