An Iranian climber went missing shortly after being filmed competing without a headscarf or hijab, before later resurfacing and appearing to apologise. In her latest post, Rekabi said she was returning to Iran as scheduled, adding: “I apologise about what I did to make you worry.” An Iranian opposition news website said Rekabi had been taken straight to the Iranian embassy after her performance in the Asian wall-climbing championships in Seoul. Friends reported that they had been unable to contact her since Sunday. “Ms Elnaz Rekabi departed from Seoul to Iran, early morning of October 18, 2022, along with the other members of the team,” the embassy replied today on Twitter, which is banned in Iran. “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in South Korea strongly denies all the fake, false news and disinformation regarding Ms Elnaz Rekabi.” The tweet was accompanied by a picture of Rekabi in hijab from a previous competition. 🔗 Click the link in our bio to read the full story #Iran #iranprotest
