"In 1947 I was born in Konawa, Oklahoma. I am enrolled as 1⁄2 Seminole, non-enrolled 1⁄4 Cherokee. After graduating in 1965 I enrolled at the Institute of American Indians in Santa Fe. I studied painting and printmaking from 65-67. In 1967 I enrolled at NSU in Tahlequah. I was in a car accident in 1994 and didn’t create any new paintings until 2009. The last 10 years’ works have been of imaginations of other dimensions. Worlds in my imaginations where there is no violence to people, animals and our planet. Some show the hurt and damage... The past 5 years I have emphasized on presenting more of the injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples the world over. I only produce 4-8 pieces yearly due to my health which unfortunately is getting worse. So buy my art, while I'm alive!” -JGS .
