Officially coined in 1911, after being known since 1909 as National Women's Day, today's holiday represents many important milestones in women's history. Women previously used this day to demand rights - voting, holding office, equal pay, reproductive rights, and prevention of violence against women to name a few. Since then, it has also become an important time to celebrate and recognize the powerful women in our lives. However, there is still a large amount of work to be done before ALL women are considered equal. In addition to the gender pay gap, current attacks on women's reproductive rights in states like Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma prevent women from accessing basic healthcare.
