I’m Inspired by Ruth Asawa’s intricately crocheted wire sculptures. They are a little futuristic looking, not in the usual hard and slick way, but with an expression that is gentle, twisted, and alive. Transparent and buoyant, her work defied traditional sculpture of her era by embracing negative space, light, and motion—embodying a philosophy that ethereality can emerge from utilitarian materials and domestic labor. Her ability to manifest deeply poetic, spatially dynamic form inspires the possibility that boldness come into being through the quiet and slow care of hand crafts.
