‘That Chinese Girl’ - Series published on @infringemagazine ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This series titled ‘That Chinese Girl’ aims to capture and envision a range of Chinese females. Through merging sculpture, portraiture and photography, I have stylized models to achieve a borderline sculptural effect that is reminiscent of busts originating from Western culture. By reimagining a traditional Western portraiture technique, the intent was to reinscribe and challenge the embodiment of Chinese women, putting forth an alternate perspective that expands standards. This series is made up of portraits of 5 different women - each of these ‘busts’ inhabit characteristics that defy the norms - drawing inspiration from acts of body adornment that are looked down upon in my Hong Kong upbringing (such as extreme hair dye, tattoos, piercings, body hair and revealing the cleavage).
