On July 23rd, SCARPA athlete Josh Wharton and climbing partner Vince Anderson freed one of Peru's hardest alpine routes, the Italian route "Suerte" (5.13a, WI6, M7, 3,500 feet) on Jirishanca (20,100 feet) after having to turn around in 2019 just 4 pitches from the top. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I think the coolest thing about this route is that it has hard, technical climbing in every genre,” Wharton told Climbing.com over Zoom. “I haven’t been to many peaks that involve 5.13a climbing, WI6, and M7. You kind of need a full package of skills to free climb the whole route." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Check out the link in our bio for the full Climbing.com article or head over to Vince's Instagram @icevince to see the full breakdown of the route!
