Professional development is extremely important to me so that I can grow my leadership skills along with my medical knowledge. One of my colleagues and role models, Lilit Garibyan, MD PhD, will be speaking at the Women in Leadership CME course held by Harvard Medical School. I look up to Dr. Garibyan for her incredible ability to juggle the demands of being a mother, a physician-scientist, and an inventor. After Dr. Garibyan completed her MD and PhD degrees at Harvard, she went on to invent a new treatment (“ice slurry”) that can be used to treat nerve pain and sleep apnea. She managed to do all of this while having two children and climbing the promotional ladder at Harvard Medical School.
