When I arrived in the interior of Guyana, I had no idea there was such a vibrant, deep-rooted cowboy culture. The jungle cowboys, known as vaqueros, are the real deal. They are donned in Brazilian cowboy hats, often barefoot, and wield large machetes and knives on their hips. They are expert horse riders, and many of them ride competitively. The owner of @saddlemountainranch_gy, where we are staying, and his children are part of a legacy of rodeo kings and queens; a title they have earned time and time again in the annual Rupununi Rodeo in nearby Lethem, Guyana. The history and heritage of the Guyanese vaqueros is profound. Needless to say, Iām loving the jungle cowboy life down here.
