Been exploring my new home for the year. This past weekend we went to Yellow Springs. (Fun fact: it’s also hometown to Dave Chappelle who is frequently spotted 😮) Yellow Springs was named after its water’s high iron content, leaving yellow/red deposits on the rock. Which reminded me about the importance of iron in dermatology - specifically in sunscreens! Iron oxide is often used in tinted sunscreens as it can add a reddish/brown color. The benefit of iron oxide is that it can block visible light, unlike micronized zinc or titanium oxide. For conditions like melasma, which tends to worsen during the summer, iron oxide can be an essential ingredient. ➡️ Swipe to see 5 of my favorite sunscreens that contain iron oxide Any that you’ve tried and love? #ironoxide #mineralsunscreen #sunscreenreview #melasma
