SOLACE FOR ANOTHER REGGAE SOLDIER
Steel Pulse is deeply saddened by the loss of someone who we considered to be part of the back bone of Jamaican reggae music - Chris Meredith (pictured on the left).
We met Chris, who was the bass player for Mutabaruka’s outfit, a band called “High Times.” I treasured this moment because it was also our very first time in Africa (1982). Chris was the youngest professional bass player that we ever encountered, being only 14 years of age. Upon hearing “Blues Dance Raid,” for first time, he played the bass line right back at me without fumbling on any of the notes. He nailed it!
Now, exactly 40 years later, I can testify that moment had an everlasting effect on me. We give thanks that the opportunity leant itself to have him featured on some of the songs of our latest album, MASS MANIPULATION. I don’t know why I’m saying latest when, for the sake of having Chris play, it came right on time.
Farewell my friend. Your 40 plus year career will always blaze the way for all of us that knew you.
Our condolences to Chris' friends, fans and family.
