When cartoonist Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell is not drawing for the New Yorker, she finds magic in the minutiae - the hilarity of the every day that is a focal point of her work. And as a local resident, there is no end of material to muse about here in the neighborhood. "I just wanna hear everyone’s really small, tiny, weird things that happen throughout the day, and I think that has a lot to do with my work...and especially in Greenpoint, my God, do I love the funny shit that happens around here." If you visited our Holiday Market a few weeks ago, you may have caught her furiously drawing live cartoons at our event and engaging in one of her favorite activities - small talk. If not, get to know here by reading our interview (link in bio) or check out some of her work at her first-ever gallery show, called TODAY, which debuts this Thursday, January 5 at @artsclubnyc . We spoke with @cartoonsbyhilary about her latest projects like her anti-productivity journal, her advice for aspiring cartoonists, and her love of Law & Order. Here's a clip from our interview. Read the rest on Greenpointers.com "I go to Markowa Apteka on Manhattan Avenue. Every time I’m in there, something hilarious happens... I love the guy that stops everyone on the street to talk to them about their dog. He’s an old Polish man, and he stops me probably five times a week to tell me, 'You are a beautiful soul because you take care of animals' And he says the same thing every time." "There’s the guy who sits outside of Paloma [Coffee and Bakery], he knows everyone. Everyone that walks by, he’s talking to them...I actually drew a cartoon about him, not that he would know it." "Greenpoint has a wonderful community and there’s a natural comedy on almost every corner... This is the New York I’ve wanted to experience, and I’m finally having those types of relationships." #greenpointbrooklyn #greenpointers #artsinbrooklyn #brooklynartists #williamsburgbrooklyn
