This is Yoko Ono’s “Wish Tree” (2007) that lives in the Hirshhorn’s sculpture garden. Each summer visitors can write their wishes on tiny slips of paper and tie them to the branches, and this is the last weekend to participate.
The wishes will be gathered up and sent to Reykjavik, Iceland where they’re kept in Ono’s “Imagine Peace Tower,” a permanent installation. The wishes are “harvested” carefully by staff every few weeks.
