Happy 1st birthday to this best friend baby bud Casper June. you are a sweet and gentle one, you are funny and resilient already. @mydorota and I are fortunate to have had autonomy over when we had a kid and how and why, and feel the ever pressing challenge to raise a baby incorporating the things I love about this place and the world, with hope surrounding the things I disdain and can someday we can all change. We may be too young to riot but i will teach him to pick out of handcuffs when he’s old enough. We will teach him to jump fences. I will teach him to listen to people, andlisten to people that may at first make you uncomfortable, and ask yourself why. We will teach him about kindness and compassion. now he is learning to say no, and with that learning what it means when someone else says no. he is learning to play piano. He has learned that jokes get you out of almost everything, and I suppose there is time to teach him about tact, but i’m not sure who is less suited for that, Dorota or I. He is learning to walk today or tomorrow or this week. He is learning to use a fork. He is learning to say “lolo” but he mostly says bao. He is learning all the ways love can look, with all the ways strangers to family and friends and the ways we can love him. I will only see him for about 3 weeks over the course of the summer, and it’s heartbreaking but complicated and I am happy to be playing music but thinking of him every moment my mind is still, and then of course it is not. I am learning what it means to be a good father and a good man, and I am making mistakes and I am considering the mistakes of my past, and the men before me, and I hope I can do better every day, while having fun, and learning and loving. i think Dorota is doing the best job and my love for her grows daily- I am smitten all over again. So happy birthday to those things, that bring us light, and I hope we can all push through the mud and get to our own personal good stuff.
