In 1999 I set up shop in Bill & Jerry’s garage in San Diego. They were kind enough to let me crash in their guest room and use the garage as a rehearsal studio, complete with a 4 track tape machine, stray cat, and occasional group of friends who’d come hang out and listen to my songs in progress. That’s what the lyric in this song represents – taking it back to where it all started in that garage, acknowledging the beginning, and remembering those who gave me life along the way. My process hasn’t changed much. The studio garage is now detached and sits in the backyard, but the cats and the people are still around. Still dreaming up new ideas to try onstage. Our summer tour was an extension of that process as we ventured out to share some new songs, rediscovering who we are in our 40s. And thanks to the musical collaboration with @raining_jane & @moodymill it was the most fun, most stylish, and most moving tour I’ve had to date. Thank you to everyone who chose to spend an evening or three with us. Your participation not only contributes to the future sound, but a portion of all ticket sales in the US benefitted @jasonmrazfoundation, which serves many amazing non-profits across the country; and in Canada, those proceeds went to @truenorthaid, which provides humanitarian assistance to northern Indigenous communities.
