Today’s prime minister’s questions underlined the epic weakness of Liz Truss’s political position.
Truss defended her record in office, saying: “I have been in office for just under two months and I have delivered the energy price guarantee, making sure that people aren’t paying £6,000 bills this winter, I’ve reversed the national insurance increase and I’ve also taken steps to crack down on the militant unions.”
As Truss repeatedly said Labour needed to reflect “economic reality” and condemn “militant trade unions”, Starmer hit back: “She’s asking me questions because we’re a government in waiting and they’re an opposition in waiting."
