Our first project with Mattel made perfect sense for our “Artist Recluse” collection. Creatives are nostalgic, sensitive, and unique.
“Masters of the Universe” was a personal favorite for us, so working on a capsule using character art from the new Netflix series felt like the perfect blend of past meets future. An Abc. favorite...
We flipped the “Masters of the Universe” text as a custom Japanese logo. Context being the artist recluse we imagine lives somewhere in California but is connected with a friend that works at Mattel in Japan. They can get the stuff you cannot get in the states which, when growing up, was always the rare stuff. Who didn’t want the Japanese variant version of a Pokemon card? One aspect of the capsule uses the ‘good’ and ‘evil’ colorways from the cartoon. We flipped the iconic “I have the Power,” to “WE have the Power” as an embroidered trucker hat, made a set of dueling t’s featuring Evil-Lyn and the Sorceress, and a battling He-Man and Skeletor camp shirt. All items feature a Mattel woven label to give it that nostalgic feeling of ‘this is a toy’.
T-shirts feature a layered opaque glitter print, puff print, Mattel label, collection label and back embroidery.
Hats feature multiple embroidery placements, and Mattel tag.
Camp shirts feature a custom printed fabric with screen printed character and layered glitter effects, puff print Abc. logo, Mattel label, and printed Japanese logo text on back.
