Diwali or Halloween? 🪔🎃 In one week we celebrate one of these, but this is the first time in a long time I actually took an effort to decorate, dress up, and immerse myself back in my cultural roots. Living in the US, this festival often occurs around the time of others like Halloween and Thanksgiving, and I will admit most years, I’ve given priority to the latter two. No matter how many years I’ve lived as an Indian American, it still is hard to switch one identity off for the other & make choices between the two when I need to. Not that I ever HAVE to, but sometimes one takes priority over the other. I will always enjoy Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I’m realizing I don’t know enough about Diwali because I’ve been a bit distant from it recently—mostly just putting together a last-minute outfit for the one-off Diwali party I have to attend, only to slowly forget about the festival & opportunity it provides to bring ones inner light out.
