As we start the first day of October, I am reminded that it’s been over seven months since I’ve last cosplayed or really made anything. I’ve been working a lot since lockdown, and haven’t had much energy to do anything beyond consuming TV shows and playing video games during my off time. It’s been exhausting and tiring. This photoshoot was one of the last ones I did back in February, and originally I hoped that it would be a part of a new book featuring cosplayers for @americanmcgee ‘s Alice. However, due to the coronavirus (as usual), the project has been put on hold. At the time, I had many doubts with the costume (as I always do when I’m in the middle of making something), but looking back I am quite fond of it. I’ll probably finish it before the end of the year. Like everyone else, I miss cons and dearly miss my friends that I’ve made over the years, some whom I’ve known for a decade at this point. By having cosplay as a main hobby for so long, it almost feels like we’ve collectively made a promise to visit each other every year without fail. So it has felt strange not being able to see so many people for so long. The few times I’ve seen friends when dropping off gifts and materials, we stand masked, far apart, and give air hugs as we reminisce on better times and wish each other well. Let’s continue to work together as a community to ensure the health and safety of each other as well as their loved ones, so we can hopefully see each other sooner than later. Too many people have lost friends and family for us to take this virus and its after effects lightly. Anyway, I’ll be working on cosplay again soon, as I have spent a lot of time getting my new work responsibilities under control.
