Social media isn’t a good comparison of success in business...
One of the biggest changes I’ve made this year is learning how to break free from the comparison cycle. Particularly when building a business, it’s easy to compare against companies ahead of you and your peers, but letting that take over your life only leaves you feeling discouraged.
Whilst it’s part of my role to be on social media and keep up to date with how different platforms influence and operate, I’ve also found it overwhelming to have my brain was always-on.
What can you change?
✅ Follow accounts that expand your knowledge across social media.
✅ Dedicate one hour in the morning for social updates and stop at that.
✅ Try hard to break the habit of checking social media when walking, commuting or queuing. Instead, listen to a podcast or read an interesting blog / story.
Most of the time, we see people posting about their milestones and achievements online but what we don’t see are the hours and efforts people have made to get there.
Realising that starting a business is a marathon not a sprint, limiting your social media intake and not letting others’ success overwhelm you are three of the most important lessons I’ve learnt so far.
