A rising trend in the industry—shooting both stills and motion—can be a polarizing topic. These art forms have different approaches, execution, technicalities, and mindsets. Some argue that it dilutes both crafts, but I believe it strengthens the creative process for each. Still photography encourages filmmakers to have greater intention, and film production encourages photographers to be more dynamic. 2024 was a blast, capturing so many different people from diverse backgrounds. As a photographer and Director/DP, each of these mediums serves a unique and rewarding purpose. Whether it’s a moving image or a still frame, my ultimate goal is to capture the essence of my subject’s energy. Building trust with whoever is in front of the lens is the most important step in creating a truly original image. Here’s a recap of some of my favorite moments from 2024, in single frames.
