The piece clearly has a lot to say about a great many things. I made this from a beautiful Redgum timber bridge support, 100+ years old, washed out in a previous flood in Eugowra, NSW. The sculpture’s mouth was the place where the timber previously joined the bridge before the flood destroyed it so many years ago. The various holes in the sculpture including the eyes and bullet or trepan hole in the forehead, were all originally from the bolts that held the bridge together... Eugowra has a history of flooding from Mandagery Creek and to a lesser extent from Puzzle Flat Creek. Major flooding occurred in April 1950, February 1973, August 1990, February 1992 and most recently in November 2005. The April 1950 flood is the flood of record in Eugowra...until the December 2022 flood destroyed more than 90% of the town... my sculpture is a prayer for a better world for this & all future generations.
