Starting September 1, American ginseng may be legally harvested and sold in many states across the Appalachian region. Most of the roots will be exported to East Asia, where they are highly valued for their panacean properties. To celebrate, we invite you to explore a new online exhibition, “American Ginseng: Local Knowledge, Global Roots.” This interactive website profiles 45 experts in the United States who are dedicated to conserving the endangered plant, from harvesters to dealers, doctors to chefs.
