Ah, the Shangri-Las! The girl group of them all. Mary, the lead singer, was 15, her sister Betty (Liz) 17, and the twins Marge and Mary Ann 16 when they signed to the Red Bird label. Their first two very successful singles, Remember (Walkin' In The Sand), and Leader of the Pack, shot them to the top of the charts. "Leader..." displaced the Supremes at number 1 in 1964 and remember, The Beatles were beginning to be all the rage. Quite a fine start to a career in music.
