HAPPY SOLSTICE, WITCHES!!! (and non-witch identifying persons as well - Solstice is for everyone!) . . . Winter Solstice is my very favorite day of the year. It is the longest night of the year. Tomorrow, the days grow longer each day leading to the Summer Solstice, but tonight, we dive deep into reflection to find the gold at the bottom of our darkest internal seas, carry it into the light, and see what we can form from it. . . . Here in the northern hemisphere, Winter Solstice falls in end of year holiday season. It can be a stressful time of year for those with lots to do and a difficult time of year for those with nothing to do. Issues around family rear their heads, demanding to be seen and heard. It is easy to lose ourselves in the expectations of others - of people close to us and of society generally. . . . Today, I invite you to take time to reflect on family. Try to make peace with any difficult or dark aspects. How can you shift your connection or reaction to take care of yourself first? What would make it easier for you to accept what is rather than hope for what cannot be? . . . Find the chosen family in your life. Who do you trust with your heart? Who do turn to when you need help caring for yourself? Who acts as a mirror for you, reflecting the most beautiful, talented, intelligent, funny version of yourself? Who do you feel at home with? . . . Despite what you may have heard, you can choose your family. Yes, we are all born into a family of origin. This is not the end of the story. As we move through life, we form our own families, through trust and love and mutual acceptance and support. A family isn’t formed by blood and it isn’t even formed solely by love. A family is created when two or more people promise each other that they are home. . . . Make your promise. Light the flame and nurture it to grow with the lengthening days. . . .
