Upper back is the 🗝 to all deep bends for me, and has been the main focus of my contortion practice & teaching recently. Most of the prep work that I do is relatively chill so my nervous system can calibrate, and then I only ask my body to go deep a few times in one practice. Repetition is also important, as I’ve noticed that my body warms up a lot more slowly now that I’m older and stronger. So I don’t put pressure on myself to go deep on the first try, and instead do at least a few rounds if I am asking my body to go deep. Not every practice will be a good backbending day, but I put in the work anyways. Today was one of the good days I’m super grateful for.
