I loved many things about the last Documenta when I visited in June : how accessible it felt to me & my family, how disorienting it was, the integration of food, less emphasis on names and more on ideas, being able to participate ( in pillow battles and leaving political messages ), and I liked that I didn’t feel I needed to see it all. I liked that they were things I didn’t understand and wasn't sure I liked. Some of them stayed with me in my unresolved opinions. I liked that it has elevated the idea of going to an exhibition for my son Iddu. I will never understand how it affected him, but I heard him talk about the show to another child the next day and that was everything. I liked that I learned something ( how to ask a baby's permission before changing their nappy and what to say ). I liked to read many of the nuanced opinions that came after the necessary polemics and that it triggered so many important conversation about guilt, history and context.
