We’re jumping for joy—it’s time for another #ArchivesHashtagParty! In 1974, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival’s Native Americans program featured traditional games still played at the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics, including nalukataq, or blanket toss. Historically, the Iñupiat of Northern Alaska used walrus- or seal-skin blankets to toss jumpers up to twenty feet in the air. 📷: Reed & Susan Erskine, #RinzlerArchives #ArchivesSports #nalukataq
