Normalizing a conversation around the beautiful reality of birth is a challenging idea in the world of western medicine where pain is bad and healthcare is business. It was a privilege to witness Elsa courageously birth our child and experience the serene, painful beauty of sherparding a child into this world. Prior to the birth we had watched Elephants in the wild give birth. Surrounded by fellow females, they create a support network that facilitates the birth of the child and the wellbeing of the mother. Elsa’s birth was no different in how she worked together with Abby, Carson and Johanna. To a man with a limited understanding of what this will ever directly feel like, I watched them support, elevate, motivate and care for one another to bring Tuulikki into this world. It is an honor to see that the mechanisms of humanity, at it’s very core, need not evolve. We have it all in ourselves and through our relationship to one another if we are open to seeing the great beauty of humanity. Women are gods and the force of life is strong! <3 Photo by @ccmeyer
